The Malaysian Public Sector Master Plan is now in the 2nd phase of implementation. Significant progress have been achieved, for example a total of 540 agencies have implemented OSS. As part of the continuous promotion of the Public Sector OSS Programme, the 3rd annual MyGOSSCON will be held from 4 – 6 November 2009. MyGOSSCON will bring together government organisations, OSS community and the industry to share on how OSS is being used to transform the public service delivery and create unprecedented value proposition for the business organisation. The conference theme for this year, “Leveraging OSS To Ride The Economic Wave” focus on information technology implementation in the current global economic scenario where governments and business organisations are continuously seeking innovative, practical and viable solutions. It is especially in times such as these where the value proposition and case for OSS can be demonstrated.

The Father of the Free Software Movement

Richard Matthew Stallman, the father of the Free Software movement, will be keynoting on the “Free (Bebas) Software Movement and the GNU/Linux operating system”. Richard is the author of the most popular FOSS copyright license (the GNU General Public License, generally referred to as the GPL) and the principle author of many important and widely used contributions including the GNU Compiler Collection (GCC), GNU Debugger (GDB), Emacs text editor and many more. Brian Aker will also be keynoting on Drizzle and MySQL database engines. He is the Director of Architecture at MySQL AB and he kick-started the Drizzle Project (an important code-branch of MySQL 6 which is jointly developed by Google, Canonical & Sun). It is organized by the Malaysian National Computer Confederation (MNCC), an ICT confederation dedicated to the development of ICT Professionals and the creation of an Information Rich Society. FOSS.my is an annual event bringing together professionals and enthusiasts from Malaysia, Singapore, Asia and the rest of the world for a two day grassroots driven driven open source conference. It is strictly focused on FOSS sharing and learning, and the conference strongly promotes FOSS contribution and participation by delegates, in order to help build the Malaysian FOSS ecosystem.
